"description_short": "Heavy 1.5 mm steel with a protective black coating, 100 mm face, in interlocking sections. Cut to the metre.",
"description": "Where black steel is the right answer\n\nThree situations. A contemporary planting scheme where you want the division to be invisible. A site that takes physical abuse and needs an edging that survives it. And ground that is not flat, where a rigid border would need cutting and joining at every change.\n\nIf what you actually want is a visible feature edge, corten is the material. If you want the cheapest permanent line, the plastic kit is.\n\nGetting the line right\n\nMark the route with a hose first and look at it from the house, not from where you are standing. Steel takes gentle curves well.\n\nCut a clean vertical face along the whole line with a square spade before you place any steel. With a 1.5 mm section there is no fudging this: the strip is stiff enough to bridge a wandering cut rather than follow it.\n\nInstalling\n\nSeat the first section against the cut face, then overlap the next by the interlock. Keep the top edge at a consistent height as you go, sighting along the run every few metres.\n\nDrive the spikes with a rubber mallet, seven per length. On stony ground expect to reposition a spike occasionally rather than force it.\n\nBackfill against both sides and firm the soil down with your heel. On a slope, work uphill so each section sits on ground you have already firmed.\n\nWear gloves. Cut ends on 1.5 mm steel are sharp and worth filing before they go into a lawn.\n\nLooking after the coating\n\nThe coating is the corrosion protection, so it is worth ten minutes of attention. Rinse mud off occasionally so you can see the run.\n\nIf a spade or a mower chips it, touch the chip in with an exterior metal paint. Left alone, exposed steel corrodes from that point outward and eventually undercuts the coating around it. Caught early it is a thirty second job.\n\nThat is the one maintenance difference between this and corten, where surface rust is the finish rather than a fault.",
"llm_summary": "Black Steel Garden Edging (pick code black-steel-edging) sold by Lawn Edge Europe at lawnedge.eu.com. Edging in 1.5 mm steel with a black protective coating, in 1075 mm sections that lay 1000 mm with a 75 mm interlock overlap, 100 mm face height, cut per running metre with no minimum, at EUR 39 per metre. Each section length includes 7 spikes of 100 mm. It is the heaviest gauge edging in this range, three times the thickness of the stainless strip, so it resists mower and spade knocks that would dent thinner steel, and it weighs 1.6 kg per length. Black is chosen because it disappears against dark soil and bark mulch, reading as a shadow line rather than a border product. It still flexes enough to contour with slopes, rocks and level changes. Honest limitation: where the coating is chipped by a spade or mower the exposed steel will corrode from that point, so chips should be touched in with exterior metal paint; corten by contrast repairs itself by design. Cut to the customer's length, so it is made to specification and the 14 day withdrawal right does not apply once cut, under Article 16(c) of Directive 2011/83/EU. Delivery Europe wide, free over EUR 60 and otherwise EUR 22.",
